Would you buy a car from this guy?

Yesterday was that great American holiday known as Superbowl Sunday, where the NFL’s top two teams duke it out… AND we get to see the year’s best commercials! I will have to admit I didn’t watch much yesterday–too much else to do, and I didn’t really care who won–but when I do watch. it’s mostly for the commercials!

We have some good–well, depending on how you define “good”–local commercials, too. Take these car commercials for instance. The guy in the commercials is the sales manager for Dayton area dealership group, and whether or not you’re in the market for new car, if you live in Dayton and ever turn on the TV, you’ve seen them–and probably have an opinion on them. Love ’em or hate ’em, they’re certainly memorable!

You see, this guy pops up whenever anyone mentions buying a new car… and in some of the weirdest places! It goes something like this: a husband and wife, or maybe a couple of friends, are talking and one of them mentions something like “yeah, and after this, I need to go shop for a new car.” Then this sales manager guy pops into the middle of everything (and I mean everything!) and says, “Did someone say something about BUYING A CAR??!!”

He has shown up in a ladies’ aerobics class:

…in the middle of a wedding:

…in someone’s hot tub!

…even in the delivery room! O.o

He’s shown up in the ladies’ room at a night club (in a separate stall!). He’s even shown up in bed with a husband and wife!Β (In the middle!) Everyone was clothed, but… ewww!

In case you’re wondering, I did not buy my Camaro from these guys, but about a year later, they bought the dealership I bought from! When we were thinking about placing an order (this was before production began), my husband said, “I don’t want that guy showing up in my hot tub!” LOL!

What about you? Would you buy a car from this guy? Do you think these commercials are funny? Creepy? Or just dumb? If you watched the Superbowl last night, which commercial was your favorite? Mine was the one for milk, with the Rock. πŸ™‚Β I’d love to hear from you!

On another note, I’m at the ROW80 blog today, talking about how to Set a Goal You Can’t Miss. Stop by and let me know what you think!

  1. Those commercials don’t bother me so much. The stupid ones are from Hidy Honda!

Don’t know which commercial was my favorite last night. Most of them were just plain weird (or gross – that kissing one? Ugh!). Maybe Budweiser’s Clysdale (I always like those anyway). And my husband voted for the Coke winner (the women) in that weird race. He said “who wouldn’t vote for the women?”

  2. Nope. Would not buy from that guy.

We have a similar guy here in the Sacramento area, but it’s a radio ad and he has the most annoying voice ever. And then he makes it as big and loud as possible so that I have to turn the station every time that commercial comes on. No way would I go to that guy’s car dealership to buy a car. I’d be deaf.

  3. I liked the Toyota genie commercial, when the mom wishes she could eat all the chocolate she wants and then her dr says, “Well your chocolate levels are dangerously low.” πŸ™‚
The car guy commercials are memorable but don’t make me want to buy from him!

  4. LOL Patricia, I don’t blame you!

Coleen, I would actually consider something besides a Chevy if they said I needed chocolate! Like maybe a Buick or Cadillac – wouldn’t want to anger Mr. Goodwrench! πŸ™‚

  5. I admit to not paying attention if the commercial is average. But something like this would make my avoid list. We would not shop there for a car. We went years where we weren’t allowed to stop at a Carl’s Jr. because of their ads. My husband takes bad advertisement very seriously. And speaking of seriously, they need some real actors in those commercials. They are bad on so many levels.LOL.

  6. Okay Jennette, that is just weird. But I have to tell you, I wasn’t at all impressed with this year’s commercials at the Super Bowl. Hubby and I were really disappointed. It was scary actually. This was the best they could come up with? Well, except for the Clydesdale pony. That was cute. Be on the look out for that wacky Dayton salesman Jennette. What has happened to Dayton? LOL! And “My Town Mondays”? I miss it! πŸ™‚

  7. LOL Debra – that’s really funny about Carl’s Jr! Although come to think of it, there are places I wouldn’t shop because the commercials are so stupid!

Karen, that’s what I’ve heard from most people. Of course, I’m not really surprised – GM pulled out, so no Camaro ad. The ads are just too expensive! And LOL – this IS a My Town Monday! I just stopped putting that in the title. Maybe I should put it back? I’ll have some cool history stuff here soon!

  8. OMG. This is how my mind works. I just remembered the commercial so I had to come here and post it. “If it doesn’t get all over the place it doesn’t belong in your face.” It would always show ketchup falling on someone’s shirt. Scott HATED that to no end.

  9. Debra, LOL!!! And Ewwww! They don’t have Carl’s Jr. around here, but after reading that I wouldn’t go there if they did!

  10. Too creepy definitely would not buy from him, but then I dont watch commercials – I read facebook posts. LOL. Seriously, my husband is a former creative director of ads and commercials today do not meet his standards – so we don’t watch them. I had to find the Clydesdale commercial on YouTube to find out what everyone was talking about. It’s the best way to watch only the best of the best or the worst of the worst. *grin*

  11. LOL Lynette – I don’t watch too many myself, but someone else always has the TV on so I can’t help but see! Best of the best and worst of the worst are definitely the most entertaining!
